At the October 2023 City Council Meeting, the Council requested staff in collaboration with the Park Planning and Community Events Commission (Commission), recommend a Park Naming Policy outlining criteria and guidelines for naming new City parks and amenities.

At the January 2024 Commission Meeting, a Policy for Naming of Parks and for Fundraising Efforts for Park Facilities/Amenities was presented, however, the Commission requested that staff separate the policy into two: one for the Naming of New City Parks and one for Fundraising Efforts for City Park Facilities/Amenities. Attached is a draft policy outlining criteria for the naming of new City parks and includes elements of similar policies adopted in other Orange County cities.  The policy also incorporates the procedure outlining guidelines for collecting public input which was voted on by the Commission at the November 2022 meeting.

The Commission is being asked to provide input on the draft policy and provide a recommendation to the City Council.
