6.                     Discussion and Background

In 2019, the City selected Tetra Tech, Inc. to design and provide construction support services for the Well 28 and Public Park project located at 235 W. Maple Avenue. The project is being completed in 2 phases. Phase 1, which includes the drilling of the well, was completed in 2022. Phase 2 of the project includes the equipping of the well, associated structures and construction of the Public Pocket Park.

The allocated budget for reviewing and responding to shop drawing submittals, requests for information (RFI), and providing structural and geotechnical observation has been exhausted while there are additional submittals and (RFI) that still need to be reviewed and approved. These submittals are highly technical and require support from the design team to ensure the project is constructed per approved plans and specifications. Prompt responses to these requests also help to minimize unnecessary delays and minimize additional costs during construction. At staff’s request, Tetra Tech, Inc. provided a proposal for additional construction management support in an amount not to exceed $59,800, bringing the total design and construction management cost of the project to $1,056,150. Construction of the project is expected to be completed by July 2025.
