6.                     Discussion and Background

The Public Works Department Water Division continuously purchases piping, brass fittings, and fire hydrants for its repairs and maintenance operation of the water distribution system.  Staff uses the informal bid process to purchase the required materials by requesting vendors to provide pricing for each individual item needed.

On June 25, 2024, the City Council approved purchase orders for miscellaneous materials and supplies from various vendors for Fiscal Year 2024-25 (FY25).  The authorized vendor list included Ferguson Water Works and United Water Works with an amount not to exceed $125,000 for each vendor.  Recently, the City was informed that Ferguson Water Works has acquired United Water Works.  Therefore, United Water Works has been removed from the vendor list and the original purchase order has been cancelled.  Because of the merger, more materials and supplies are now expected to come from Ferguson Water Works.  Staff requests an increase of $125,000 to the purchase order for Ferguson Water Works, bringing the total purchase order to $250,000.

The Public Works Department Water Division continues to monitor and seek out vendors with the lowest prices to ensure the City is getting the best value available.
