6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
Reservoir 5 is a five-million-gallon welded steel water storage tank located at 694 N. Cannon Street in the southeastern portion of Orange. The reservoir was constructed in 1968 and has since been in continuous operation. The reservoir is protected from corrosion by a combination of protective coatings and cathodic protection (CP) systems. Continuous monitoring and maintenance of the CP systems is necessary to prevent corrosion and preserve the tank structure. Based on recent annual survey recommendations, plans and technical specifications have been completed to replace the existing exterior CP system with a new Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) in accordance with the current codes and industry standards.
The scope of work for this project will include relocation of the existing internal CP system rectifier, complete abandonment of existing exterior CP system, installation of a new exterior ICCP system, anode bed, rectifier, underground electrical conduits, reference...
