6. Discussion and Background
The Police Department Training Bureau is responsible for issuing body armor that meets or exceeds the standards of the National Institute of Justice. Currently, the department purchases the Enforcer 6000 series for ballistic vests and Combat helmets exclusively from U.S. Armor Corporation (US Armor). Approved vests are issued to new incoming officers and replace expired vests. US Armor is the sole manufacturer of the Enforcer 6000 and does not depend on the use of distributors which helps maintain the cost of vests. Additionally, US Armor offers on-site fittings as all vests are custom made. US Armor is headquartered in Santa Fe Springs, California and is also an authorized dealer awarded a General Services Administration (GSA) Contract No. GS-07F-072DA, offering “better-than” GSA pricing.
The Police Department is requesting the continuation of ballistic vests and helmets during Fiscal Year 2025-2026 from US Armor for $52,000.
