6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
A resident has submitted a request for blue curb along the frontage of 1622 East Fairway Drive. This section of Fairway Drive is situated between Young Circle and Tustin Street and consists of single-family residential properties. Permits are required to park on this section of Fairway Drive. Vehicles displaying a valid Disabled Person (DP) parking placard or DP license plate are exempt from the permit requirement.
The resident has sufficiently demonstrated a need for a blue curb parking spot on the street adjacent to their home. The resident holds permanent California DP license plates. Although these plates allow for on-street parking without a permit, the resident's apartment complex has no accessible parking, and on-street parking is often unavailable.
It should be noted that blue curb is still public parking and may be utilized by anyone with a disabled decal or placard on their vehicle. In the event that the resident no longer requires the blue curb, they are to contact the Public Works Department so that it may be removed.
Based on these considerations, staff recommends that the City Traffic Commission approve the installation of 22 feet of blue curb along the frontag...
