6. Discussion and Background
Highland Street is a 25 MPH local, residential street at its intersection with Dana Place. Permit Parking has been activated on both sides of Highland Street between Sycamore Avenue and the south terminus. A field review conducted by City staff determined that there is approximately 110 feet of curbside parking available on the north side of Dana Place between Highland Street and Park Lane.
A neighborhood resident requested that the City restrict parking on the northwest corner of the Highland Street/Dana Place intersection, to enhance pedestrian access. While recent records do not indicate any reported collisions at this intersection, said resident has expressed discomfort when navigating through the area if vehicles are parked near the corner. Moreover, a future curb ramp is planned at the affected intersection corner, and the proposed red curb is also expected to discourage parked vehicles from blocking the ramp.
