6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
The Fire Department purchases medical supplies from several vendors including Life-Assist, Inc. In May 2020, Life-Assist, Inc. was awarded a National Purchasing Partners (NPPGov) contract with League of Oregon Cities valid from May 2020 through May 2026. As part of this contract, Life Assist has extended cooperative pricing to the City of Orange. This opportunity delivers the most competitive pricing available for medical supplies and medications. Life Assist provides the greatest selection of medical products and superior customer service.
Approximately $450,000 is spent annually on medical supplies primarily through four different vendors, of which Life-Assist has the largest share. Based on routine pricing comparisons performed by Fire Department personnel, Life Assist continues to offer the most competitive costs through their extended cooperative purchasing agreement opportunities.
