title

Public Hearing to consider an amendment to the City’s Master Fee Schedule establishing an annual fee and fines for the vacant property registration program

body

2.                     Summary

The proposed ordinance establishes maintenance and security standards for unoccupied and abandoned properties. The City has elected not to include a registration requirement for unoccupied or abandoned properties as part of the proposed ordinance. The proposed program would establish inspection, monitoring, and enforcement procedures to address neglected properties, recover City enforcement costs, and reduce blight, nuisance conditions, criminal activity, and threats to the public health, safety, and welfare. The ordinance also provides for progressive administrative fines, criminal penalties, and summary abatement authority, when necessary, to achieve and maintain code compliance.

Staff requests a continuance of the item to the June 9, 2026, Regular City Council Meeting.

3.                     Recommended Action
