6.                     Discussion and Background

At the January 25, 2023 Park Planning and Community Events Commission (Commission) meeting, the Commission voted to recommend the City Council change the Commission’s meeting schedule from quarterly to six meetings per year. At the June 27, 2023 City Council meeting, Council approved the recommendation and adopted Resolution No. 11466 in accordance with the Orange Municipal Code (OMC) Section 2.60.050. The new meeting schedule took effect January 2024.

Given the City’s current budget deficit and status of City sponsored Special Events, there was interest from the Commission to revisit  the frequency of the Commission meetings and adjusting the schedule back to quarterly meetings. Currently, the Commission meets in the months of January, March, May, July, September, and October.

Should  the Commission vote to recommend the City Council adjust the schedule, Council approval is required, as well as the adoption of a new resolution, reflecting the revised meeting schedule. Meeting dates will be determined based on available time slots so as not to conflict with City Council meetings and other Commissions’ meeting dates. Council will have final approval of the revised schedule.
