2. SUMMARY
The pedestrian bridge which spans one of two bio swales in the Del Rio Landscape Maintenance District has experienced dry rot and needs to be renovated. The scope of work includes replacement of all wooden structural members with steel beams and replacement of all cross members and decking.
3. RECOMMENDED ACTION

Approve contract with Lightning Fence Company, Inc. in the amount not to exceed $68,516 for the Del Rio Bridge Renovation and authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute on behalf of the City.

4. FISCAL IMPACT
The total expenditure for this contract is not to exceed $68,516 and will be funded in Del Rio Bridge Renovation ( 20402) through Del Rio Landscape Maintenance District (294).

6. DISCUSSION AND BACKGROUND
The Community Services Department maintains the landscape, trees, bio swale, walking path and pedestrian bridge in the Riverbend community, located northwest of Glassell St. and Lincoln Ave, as part of the Del Rio Landscape Maintenance Assessment District. The pedestrian bridge was originally constructed in 2008 as part of the walking path that encircles one of the two bio swales, and was included as part of the initial grading work done for the Riverbend development. The current bridge is made entirely of wood and beyond its useful life due to dry rot. Over time, this condition will continue to worsen and could lead to failure of the bridge.
