6. Discussion and Background
At the February 14, 2024, City Traffic Commission (CTC) Meeting, a request was heard and approved by the CTC for the installation of an accessible parking space in front of 260 S. Earlham Street (Item No. 4.2.) When the field crew arrived to do the installation, the proponent asked if the accessible parking space could be moved to the north side of the driveway instead of the approved location on the south side. The proponent was informed that the space on the north side is not long enough to park legally. The proponent then contacted Traffic Engineering and asked that his request for the accessible parking blue curb be withdrawn.
A field review indicated that the associated sign and curb markings have not yet been installed. Since the proponent no longer requires an accessible space in front of their home, staff has no issues with leaving the curb unmarked. Staff therefore recommends that the request to not move forward with blue curb implementation along the frontage of 260 S. Earlham Street be approved.
